The Castle Hills Schools Foundation is Seeking New Members for the

Killian Foundation Advisory Board

Completed Board Interest Forms must be received by March 1, 2022

 

The Castle Hills Schools Foundation Board for Killian Middle School is seeking 1 new member to join the Advisory Board. The new member will serve for a 2-3 year term. The Board consists of three members (School Liaison, Secretary, and Treasurer). The function of the Board is to review grant requests submitted by Killian Middle School faculty and staff and determine which requests best meet the educational needs of the children.  The Board meets monthly during lunchtime hours. The time commitment involved is estimated at one monthly meeting (1-2 hours), as well as 5-8 additional hours a month.

 

In order to be considered you must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must be an adult homeowner that is a current Castle Hills resident
  2. Must have a child/children attending Killian Middle School for the duration of the term to be served on the board
  3. May not be serving on any other Castle Hills Schools Foundation Boards
  4. May not be the following officers of the Killian Middle School PTA: President, Treasurer, or School Support Chair
  5. May not be a full-time employee of Killian Middle School
  6. Only one member per family is allowed on the board

Castle Hills Schools Foundation

 

Among the many amenities and benefits offered to Castle Hills residents is a unique scholarship program funded through the Castle Hills Schools Foundation. Through this program, students can be reimbursed for up to $10,000 in college expenses. To be eligible, the student must be the child of a Castle Hills property owner, attend an accredited two or four-year college, and must be younger than 24 years old prior August 1st. Applications are only available between May 31st and September 1st each year. If the student who has applied passes between 12 and 23 hours in a 12-month period, the student will receive a reimbursement for college expenses in the amount of $1,000. If the student passes 24 hours or more in a 12-month period, the award is $2,000. The annual maximum award to a student is $2,000, and the total lifetime award can be no more than $10,000.

 The Castle Hills Schools Foundation is a nonprofit organization that is expected to generate $1 million annually in perpetuity and is funded by a fee of 1/2 of 1 percent of the sales price on the transfer of all real property within the community. According to the Castle Hills website (www.castlehills.com), the Schools Foundation has distributed over $6.8 million to local schools and scholarships, including Castle Hills Elementary School, Independence Elementary School, Creek Valley Middle School, Killian Middle School and Hebron High School, among others.

 The Foundation is comprised of Castle Hills homeowner Advisory Boards with the purpose of making recommendations on how each school uses their awarded funds. Funds may be applied to teacher salary supplements, additional technology purchases for classrooms, subsidized day care centers, and other services as needs are determined.
